Questions about PNG metadata

What metadata can PNG files contain?

PNG files can carry text chunks, timestamps, software details, color profiles and comments. Inspect the individual file to see which fields are present.

Is PNG metadata visible?

A normal image preview does not show PNG metadata. Inspect the file to find fields such as creation software or timestamps before sharing it.

What are PNG text chunks (tEXt, iTXt, zTXt)?

PNG text chunks store metadata: tEXt holds plain text, iTXt supports international text with language tags, and zTXt holds compressed text. Check them for names, software details or internal comments before sharing.

Do PNG screenshots contain system information?

A PNG screenshot can carry software and timestamp fields, depending on the capture tool. Inspect the file rather than assuming those fields are present or absent.
